Halloween- Banning store bought costumes!
Ok, I really don’t know what my extreme aversion is to purchasing store bought costumes. I can say as the daughter of an eccentric art teacher and growing up in the ahem 70’s when the only options for store bought costumes were a formed plastic face and a thin cotton layer outfit, my mom would NEVER phathom us wearing such a thing. So growing up, it was expected that we would win every “most creative” costume contests. We were the typical witch, fairy, cats, dragons, pumpkins etc, but our costumes were elaborate and impressive. As a teenager, I strived to have a costume that no one else had. Some worked some didn’t. Christmas tree, laundry basket, locker =worked. Flypaper =didn’t work, but got the laughs I guess I was looking for. My kids are 7 and 9 now , and I have thoroughly enjoyed the costumes we have made. Fending off the “Hanna Montana and High School Musical characters” honestly I am not sure I’ll be able to have much more control over their (ok my selections) much longer.
