My all time most creative costumes. I love love these costumes for a couple reasons. 1. It was my 1st year for many years to come making the kids costumes. 2. I completely winged it 2. They still make me smile when I look back. Megi was not walking yet, so this was great. She was a newborn chick breaking out of an egg. Her yellow tights were perfect chick legs and the soft fuzzy around her arms and head were great details. The “broken egg shell” on top of her head and the “broken egg shell around her body was perfect. AJ’s custom, again sans a pattern, was only possible, because he wasn’t old enough to really protest what I was doing to him. I am sure later in life he is going to have some thoughts on how could I dress him in essentially a dress with hand died feathers!! (yes, I hand dyed the feathers, I couldn’t find the color I wanted). The funniest thing about this year is that I was so proud of my work, I could not wait to parade them around for others to marvel. We attended the school party and of course they were big hits. (smile on my face). We were skipping trick or treat to attend Harvest Festival at my friends church. I couldn’t wait. Jumping out of the car, making sure all the feathers were fluffed and we were ready to shine. Except to my horror as I walked into the church festival with my son dressed as a chicken and my baby as a chick in a broken egg—this church did not celebrate with costumes. Oh geesh quick back to the car, kids off with the costumes. The kids didn’t care, it was a nice fun festival with lots of great activities. I was secretly crushed.. lesson learned.
